Majors Draft Procedure

FNLL will follow the Alternate Method Plan B Redraft Option, consistent with Little League Policy, Local League Draft Methods.  The complete details of this method can be found in the Rule Book for Little League Baseball at https://www.littleleague.org/

For returning Majors players, each player will be entered into the draft pool and be selected to a new team. No evaluation attendance is necessary if your child played Spring Majors in 2024. For new Majors enrolled candidates, each player will be required to attend the evaluation so managers can make assessments on skillset.  Tryouts will be conducted at Insports Center in Trumbull on February 22 and 23, from 12pm to 3pm.

See below for some frequently asked questions.

Majors Division Player Evaluation & Draft – FAQs

To help players and families prepare for the Majors season, we have compiled key details about the evaluation and draft process.

Q: What should my player expect during tryouts?

Players will have the opportunity to:

  • Infield: Fielding ground balls and throwing to a designated base
  • Outfield: Catching fly balls and throwing to a designated base/fielder
  • Hitting: Take live swings off a coach pitcher
  • Fielding: Rotating into defensive positions during batting practice
  • Running: Running from Home Plate to First Base
  • Pitching/Catching: Optional bullpen session for pitchers and catchers

Q: What should my child bring?

Players should bring their baseball equipment:

  • USA-approved bat, helmet, glove and athletic shoes (no cleats)
  • Catchers should bring their gear if possible
  • Baseball/athletic pant should be worn

Q: What if my child is unable to attend tryouts?
If a candidate cannot attend one of the tryouts, and provides an excuse which is acceptable to the board of directors, the candidate may be drafted and placed on a team.

Q: What happens after tryouts?

All players will be placed on either a Majors or AAA team:

  • Majors: 10, 11, 12-year-olds selected via the player draft. All 12-year-olds will play in the Majors Division
  • AAA: Formed by the AAA coordinator and managers from the remaining 10- and 11-year-olds

Q: How many Majors teams will there be?

We expect five Majors teams for the 2025 season, based on enrollment.  The number of teams can vary each year based on number of players.

Q: Who will the Managers and coaches be?

Managers are selected and approved by the Board before tryouts. Coaches are assigned after the draft based on team rosters.

Q: How does the draft work?

To ensure fairness and competitive balance, we are conducting a full redraft, consistent with the Little League Policy -  Alternate Method Plan B Redraft option. This means all eligible players, both new and returning, are subject to the Draft.

Each manager will draft their team from the player pool.  The draft order will be randomly determined.

Q: When will team assignments be announced?

The draft will take place on Tuesday February 25, and team assignments will be communicated within 7-10 days.
